What is the Nielsen More Panel?

The Nielsen More Panel is your opportunity to be a part of the research we do here at Nielsen. This panel helps understand how consumers use their mobile devices. By simply installing our app on your smartphone and/or tablet, you are helping us to understand the online world.

Why should I join?

At Nielsen, we're all about understanding mobile trends - the types of applications you use, the content you view and listen to, as well as the websites you visit. Your everyday activities as a panellist will help us understand how people use their smartphones and/or tablet devices. It doesn't matter if you use your mobile device a lot or a little or even how you use it, the information on your usage is important to us and is a valuable contribution to our research! As a bonus, you will be rewarded for your participation! By becoming an active member of the Nielsen More Panel, you will earn daily points (according to the eligibility criteria) which can be redeemed for a variety of vouchers and gift cards through our website!

What does the Nielsen More Panel collect?

Our app collects information on your use of the internet, apps and websites you browse and for how long.

Our app records your mobile system information, such as battery status, device IDs and GPS.

Our app lets us know about the communication the phone makes and the connectivity status, such as Wi-Fi connections and number of phone calls.

We do not collect user ids or passwords.

We do not collect the content of any phone call, text or instant message or notification.

How does Nielsen keep my information private?

 Your information is protected and used as described in full in our Privacy Policy.

Your personal information will never be used to directly market or sell products to you.

We will use your personal information so that we can issue rewards, manage the panel e.g. respond to any questions you have and offer you additional research opportunities.

We use the information we collect to create a variety of research insights for our clients. We use tools and methods (such as aggregation) to make sure there is no reasonable possibility of identifying an individual participant in the reports that we create for our clients.

In accordance with market research guidelines, we may also provide individual level information to other companies. If we do, they are bound to keep the information confidential and use it only for research or statistical purposes.

We may disclose your personal information to carefully selected third parties who e.g. provide services such as data analysis, or can (and have the right permission to) enhance the personal data we hold.

These companies are contractually required to keep that information confidential and are not permitted to use this information for any other purpose except to carry out the services that they are performing for us.

What does Nielsen use my information for?

We combine the information that comes from our panelists with data and research tools from other sources. We use this information to perform research and to prepare reports and analyses concerning Smartphone audience demographics, behavior and use.

Is there a fee to join?

 There is no fee to join this panel. Please note that you will never need to provide credit card information or purchase anything in order to participate.

What happens after I sign up?

After completing the registration survey, you will need to download the Nielsen More Panel on your mobile device. You will use your login information created during the registration survey to log into the Nielsen More Panel. When you are an active panelist by sending information back to Nielsen, you will be earning rewards points and contributing to internet trends.

What if I decide I don't want to participate anymore?

Nielsen More Panel is an ongoing project. Your participation in our Smartphone research is at your discretion. Should you ever decide to stop participating, you may do so at any time.

I'm already a panel member, but I am having trouble logging in.

If you are having trouble logging in you should click the "Can't Login?" link on the Log-In page From here you can follow the instructions to reset your password. If you still have trouble please contact our help desk and ask for assistance.

What type of data is being collected on my Android device?

Our app will let us know what websites and apps you go to and how long you stay there. We want to find out what people are doing on their Smartphones. How much time do people spend on social media? How often do people use an app for shopping? These are the types of questions the Nielsen More Panel can answer. The information about your devices will be combined with others and your private information will never be shared. We may report that 30% of our panel used a specific website, but no one will ever know if you individually used that website.

Our app does collect:

  1. The URL (address) you went to
  2. How long you were on the URL
  3. General mobile device activity

Our app does NOT collect:

  1. User Ids
  2. Passwords

For how long can I participate?

You can stay on the Nielsen More Panel for as long as you like and the longer you stay, the more rewards you will earn. You can also opt out whenever you want. If you choose to opt out, we will stop measuring the activity on your mobile device and stop collecting data. Once you've opted out, you will no longer be eligible to receive incentives.

Does the Nielsen More Panel work on every mobile device?

The Nielsen More Panel works on any Android mobile device running Android 4 or above. This includes Android smartphones and tablets by many different manufacturers.

How much data traffic does the app generate?

The Nielsen More App works by collecting usage information and sending encrypted logs over your WiFi connection. If your device has not been connected to WiFi for a long period of time, secure cellular connection (https) could be used. The Nielsen More App will NEVER send data logs if your device is roaming. The size of these log files will vary, but for a typical user, the logs will result in a transfer of approximately 1.5 MB per day. The SMS messages and use of the cellular network may result in billable charges from your mobile operator depending on your rate plan. Please check your wireless plan if you are unsure.

How do I update my profile/email address?

To update your profile, log in to the Nielsen Mobile Panel site and click on "Profile" menu and select the "Contact" submenu. This will allow you to change your personal information except email id and mobile number.

How do I opt out of the panel?

In order to opt out of the panel, you will have to simply uninstall the Nielsen More Panel App from your Smartphone.

Can I have multiple devices in the panel?

No. You can install and register on the Nielsen More Panel only on one device at any given point in time.

I have upgraded my device and want to remain in the panel. What do I need to do?

Congratulations on your new device! If you have upgraded to another device, you can update your device by logging in to the Nielsen More Panel website (more.nielsen.com). Click on "Profile" menu and select the "Devices" submenu. This will allow you to remove your old device and add your new device.

How do I manage my Nielsen More Panel Account?

Visit the Nielsen More Panel (website) and login using the "Sign in" link at the top right of the website. Once you have logged in using your User ID and Password, you will be able to manage your profile and device information.

How do I check my rewards?

You can check your reward points in the 'Rewards' section of your account in the "My Points" page

What are you going to do with this data?

The collected data will be used to produce research reports and analyses. These reports and analyses are used to build, plan and manage the next generation of mobile devices and services. None of your personal information or individual usage information will be shared with third parties for marketing purposes.

Will the Nielsen More Panel App interfere with my device's performance?

The app runs silently on your device. However, some users may experience a small impact on their device performance.

How do I check if I am active on Android device?

You can check on your device within the Nielsen More Panel App making sure that you are "Connected".
